Last year, Team MVF was able to raise over $1,000 to help food pantries from the United States to Europe provide food to those in need. Our readers were amazing, giving whatever they could afford to help out someone less fortunate. We were so encouraged that we have decided to make this an annual event. So, once again we are asking you, our readers, to open your hearts and your wallets and help us raise money for food charities in the United States and beyond.
The struggling economy and record high unemployment have caused the number of individuals and families seeking emergency food assistance to drastically increase. Many of these are people who have never visited a food pantry before. Sadly, many of these families include children, who should never have to go to bed hungry. These organizations rely on the generosity of donors like you to help them keep their shelves stocked so that they never have to turn away a person in need.
According to Feeding America:
In 2010, 48.8 million Americans lived in food insecure households, 32.6 million adults and 16.2 million children.
In 2010, 4.8 percent of all U.S. households (5.6 million households) accessed emergency food from a food pantry one or more times
Nine states exhibited statistically significant higher household food insecurity rates than the U.S. national average 2008-2010:
United States 14.6%
North Carolina 15.7%
As a thank you to everyone who donates at least $10, your name will be entered into a weekly drawing to win an autographed book by one of many amazing authors who are generously making a donation for this cause. Every dollar donated provides eight meals to men, women, and children in need. Donating is easy – you can donate through PayPal, and the funds will go to Feeding America. Or, if you want to donate to a food pantry or charity of your choice, just forward a copy of the receipt to email@example.com.
Together, we can help fight hunger. Together, our donations will make a difference. One dollar at a time.
